Maharashtra Rajya Gujarati Sahitya Academy celebrates World Gujarati Language Day on 24th August, the birthdate of Kavi Narmada. On this occasion the Academy presents Kavi Narmada Award, a letter of honour and Rupees fifty one thousand to the men of letters of Gujarati Language and Marathi Language.
The birthdate 24th August, this year was celebrated at Ravindra Natyamandir, Mumbai and the award for Gujarati Language was presented to Dr Kumarpal Desai. For Marathi language the award was presented to Smt.Vijya Rajadhyaksha.
Dr Kumarpal Desai who over a very illustrious career has been honoured with several awards including Gujarat Ratna. He is the Managing Trustee for the Institute of Jainology, India and Director of Gujarati Vishwakosh. At the presentation ceremony, he talked about his literary journey and how he moved through a variety of literary fields like biography, research, children’s literature, adult literature, translation, criticism and journalism. He gave some interesting details about the recent activities of Gujarati Vishwakosh and Institute of Jainology.
On this occasion, Shree Hemraj Shah, the President of Maharashtra Rajya Gujarati Sahitya Academy greeted him. Shree Muhammad Khurshid Sidiki, the President of Urdu Academy and literary persons of Gujarati Literature were present there in huge number.
