IOJ has celebrated Ahimsa Day in October each year over the past seven years. It has been one of the most suceessful event in the Jain Calendar in the UK.
The event is hosted by an MP at the House of Commons. We invite speakers of international repute to address the gathering on a selected theme related to Jainism.
In the past three years, in line with the United Nations declaring 2nd October as Day of Non-violence to honour Mahatma Gandhiji, IOJ have given Ahimsa Awards to personalities who have contributed to Ahimsa in their personal life style. Dr Nelson Mandela, HH The Dalai Lama, HH Acharya Mahapragyaji, and Professor Padmabhji Jaini have graciously accepted the award.
Generally the event gets almost fully subscribed but we have some additional capacity.
The spare capacity is only realised nearer the day of the event. The Directors feel that it would be good to use the spare capacity. To this end, we are planning to setup a database of those community members who would like to attend this event and who do not mind receiving an invitation at a short notice. It should be noted that the whole event is conducted in English.
