Jain Lecture at Nottingham University

Lecture at Nottingham University under the auspices of Nottingham Jain Society

Tuesday, 30th October, 2012 ~ Comparing Indic Religions

The Education Team responded to the request by assigning the task to Dr Harshad Sanghrajka who drove to Nottingham on Tuesday afternoon.  The lecture was organised by Darshni Shah who is a Medical Student at this University and Vice President of the Jain Society.

At 6.00 PM the Jain Society Committee started with the recitation of Namokkara Mantra, Arti and Mangal Divo.  The audience joined in.

The lecture was delivered with the aid of a PowerPoint presentation, with time left for an open session that was well utilised by the audience to raise questions on various topics and religions.

Many of the students and also some Jain families living in Nottingham had been urged by their families in Nairobi not to miss the session and there was general discussion with them about the trips to Nairobi.  An estimated 30 people attended the lecture.

General feedback from the audience is as follows:

‘He helped establish what is different about Jainism and helped us to focus on how to lead our lives properly as Jains’ – Suraj Shah

‘It was good, very interesting!’ – Henil Shah

‘The scientific principles behind some of our Jain theories and the analogies Harshadbhai used made it easier for us to relate to what would otherwise seem like very heavy or overwhelming material to digest’. – Darshni Shah

‘He separated the differences between the three Eastern religions very well, it was a concise talk’ – Arjunaa Wimalathasan

In closing Harshad thanked Darshni and the organisation for their invitation, organisation and administration of the event.  The President, Mr Suraj Shah thanked the Institute of Jainology and Dr Harshad Sanghrajka for responding to their request.
