Members of IOJ Education Team: Prakash Patalia, Jyotsna Samji, Shruti Malde and Trusit Shah drove to Northampton on Friday 14th September to celebrate Paryushan weekend with the community. They were kindly hosted by Fulavantiben Shah.
They attended the Pratikraman and Bhavna on Friday evening.
On Saturday, 15th they ran a workshop on Paryushan and Pratikraman with explanations of the various texts and their meanings, including muhapatti padilehana and accompanying 50 recitations. In the evening they led the Pratikraman with English explanations of the texts being recited. Due to the elucidation in the workshop, the audience found it easy to understand and follow the pratikraman procedures.
On Sunday, 16th, the day started with Puja in the temple. In the morning session the team presented on the Kalpa Sutra and gave a brief presentation, using power point slides, on prior births of Lord Mahavir, ending with his ultimate birth as Tirthankara. After lunch, the community celebrated Mahavir Janma Kalyanak with 14 dreams and cradle rolling.
The team also sponsored the lunch events by contributing the fixed nakro. They returned on Sunday evening, feeling very pleased with their visit. The feedback from the Oshwal Association of the UK, Northampton, was very positive and they expressed their sincere thanks to the team for the visit.
